From Vision Plan for Revitalization to UNcommon Cultural Community

The Shreveport Common Vision Plan (2012) has been in Implementation Phase for almost 7 years with more than $56,000,000 already invested by public/private stakeholders. Public/private partnerships and the collaboration of over 50 property owners, developers, non-profit organizations and private donors big and small have, together, created sustainable community-change.

Milestone Indicators

  • $56 million achieved of the $100 million PORTFOLIO OF STRATEGIES with now over 50 public/private partners advancing 54 (up from 36) community-changing projects!

  • Completion of the restoration/re-purposing of the Central ARTSTATION, Artist in Residence “Tower,” Municipal Auditorium, Oakland Cemetery, 18 historic properties privately restored/redeveloped and 4 are in pre-development.

  • In 2010 only half of the buildings remained, and of those only 46% were occupied. Today, over 70% are occupied with 6 more under construction for unique live/work, maker, and marketspaces.

  • 30% increase in Property Values after 20 years of decline

  • 175 Arts and Cultural Events were produced in 2022 in 13 venues in the 9-block area. 32 public art installations have been commissioned including 12 murals and these 20’ tall, LED lit, iconic sculptures: ART the Dalmatian, THE FLAME, the 3 Artistrees which are also solar lit, and the new Mike McSwain designed Performance Pavilion in the new Caddo Common Park.

  • The new 2 acre Caddo Common park has replaced 9 parcels of blight with a green community space with amenities which include tree-lined walking paths, Louisiana Gardens, outdoor performance pavilion, Bioswale water feature, the Art Bosque with 3 20’ tall Artistrees, AARP Tables, food truck court, and more.
